It was a bright and
lovely morning. The heavenly aroma of scrumptious food wafted in the
air. Julie was walking to her favourite stall to buy her comfort
food, marcaroni. To her, it had always been the best food ever. The
smell of chicken broth was so tempting and its sweetness was simply
delicious. Julie could not wait to savour the marcaroni.
Julie started
queueing up for her food. The queue was as long as a snake. Finally,
it was her turn to place the order. Yum! Yum! She spotted a vacant
seat and went toward it, gingerly holding the bowl of steaming hot
soup.
“Julie! Julie!”
It sounded like a familar voice. Julie turned around and smiled
brilliantly. It was her best friend, Bryan. Bryan was a very kind
boy and had a wonderful personality. He had a plate of fried rice on
his tray.
“Yes?” Julie
asked inquisitively.
“I've just gotten
first in class!” Bryan exclaimed triumphantly.
“Good!” Julie's
eyes sparkled with joy. She was so proud of her best friend.
Just then, a junior
boy ran across the canteen. He bumped into Julie and there was a
loud crash! The fried rice flew like confetti at a wedding march.
The hot marcaroni soup splashed onto Julie and the junior boy and the
heat scalded the two children, causing the skin to become red and
blistered. Ouch! The two kids started screaming in pain.
Bryan ran to Mrs
Lee, his form teacher, to inform her. “Mrs Lee, a situation has
happened in the canteen!” Bryan cried out frenetically.
Mrs Lee dashed to the canteen to find out what was going on. She
brought the duo to the first aid room and applied medicated cream on
the red blisters. The soothing cream turned their loud cries into
soft whimper. The junior felt bad and kept apologising to Julie.
Mrs Lee complimented Bryan for his quick wits and told the junior
sternly not to play 'catching' in the canteen. Bryan ran back to the
canteen to buy Julie another bowl of marcaroni. Well, a friend in
need is a friend indeed.
