P3 Stomach Flu

It was a bright and sunny day.  Everyone was playing and laughing in the school field except Tom.

He was feeling sick.   He kept vomiting and felt like the red and scorching sun.  He remembered that his mother had kept trying to make Tom bring a plastic bag to school but he ignored the advice.  The advice now kept echoing in his mind but it was too late as he vomited many times like a machine gun rapidly and never stopped.

He felt like it was an emergency so he told his teacher that he wanted to go to the sick bay.  The form teacher then notified his mother.  She rushed to the sick bay to pick him up.  At one glance, Mother knew that Tom was very sick and he needed to go to a hospital for treatment fast.  Sure enough, Tom fainted along the way. So, Mother had to carry him all the way there.

After emergency treatment, Tom regained consciousness. He was told that he had severe stomach flu.   The doctor warned that he had to drink more fluids.  Fortunately, he recovered speedily and was soon playing and laughing with his friends, once again.

P3 Falling Sick

It was a hot and humid day. The sizzling heat was as hot as the inferno and it was making Alson sweat profusely. The boy was dashing home after school. The heat was killing him! He could not wait to reach home as soon as possible.

Within minutes, he finally reached home. He shed the burden off his back and headed to the kitchen. He opened the door of the refrigerator and grabbed a can of Coke. It was as cold as an ice cube. He lifted the metal tab and heard the fizzing sound. A grin splitted across his round face as he starting guzzling down the cold, refreshing drink.

As if that was not enough, he switched on the fan and made it blow in full blast directly at him. Next, he plumped himself down onto the soft leather sofa. Soon, he dozed off and slept like a baby. Unknown to him, he had just caught a cold. He was running a temperature and shivering like a leaf.

Soon, Annie, Alson's elder sister, came home. She sensed something was amiss when she noticed that Alson was coughing and shivering non-stop. “Alson, wake up!” she cried, shaking him to wake him up.

However, Alson remained motionless. Immediately, she laid her hand on his forehead. It felt feverish and was burning hot! Annie sprang into action. Without further delay, she kept sponging his forehead with a cool cloth. Two tablets were also forced down Alson's throat while he was in a groggy state.

Luckily, Alson's parents came home and brought him to a clinic. An injection swiftly brought down the high temperature. Alson was given a few days' rest and he soon recovered. Alson was grateful to his family for taking care of him and learnt to treasure his family.

P3 Canteen Crash

It was a bright and lovely morning. The heavenly aroma of scrumptious food wafted in the air. Julie was walking to her favourite stall to buy her comfort food, marcaroni. To her, it had always been the best food ever. The smell of chicken broth was so tempting and its sweetness was simply delicious. Julie could not wait to savour the marcaroni.

Julie started queueing up for her food. The queue was as long as a snake. Finally, it was her turn to place the order. Yum! Yum! She spotted a vacant seat and went toward it, gingerly holding the bowl of steaming hot soup.

“Julie! Julie!” It sounded like a familar voice. Julie turned around and smiled brilliantly. It was her best friend, Bryan. Bryan was a very kind boy and had a wonderful personality. He had a plate of fried rice on his tray.
“Yes?” Julie asked inquisitively.

“I've just gotten first in class!” Bryan exclaimed triumphantly.

“Good!” Julie's eyes sparkled with joy. She was so proud of her best friend.

Just then, a junior boy ran across the canteen. He bumped into Julie and there was a loud crash! The fried rice flew like confetti at a wedding march. The hot marcaroni soup splashed onto Julie and the junior boy and the heat scalded the two children, causing the skin to become red and blistered. Ouch! The two kids started screaming in pain.

Bryan ran to Mrs Lee, his form teacher, to inform her. “Mrs Lee, a situation has happened in the canteen!” Bryan cried out frenetically.

Mrs Lee dashed to the canteen to find out what was going on. She brought the duo to the first aid room and applied medicated cream on the red blisters. The soothing cream turned their loud cries into soft whimper. The junior felt bad and kept apologising to Julie. Mrs Lee complimented Bryan for his quick wits and told the junior sternly not to play 'catching' in the canteen. Bryan ran back to the canteen to buy Julie another bowl of marcaroni. Well, a friend in need is a friend indeed.

P3 Rat Revenge

Joshua tried to stifle a stubborn yawn. He had to look interested or Mrs Tan would call him to answer questions again. His bleary eyes tried to focus on the powerpoint slides but the words were like ants crawling across the white screen.

In his boredom, Joshua turned back and caught a glimpse of Jintao's bag. It was wriggling non-stop. Something must be in the bag! What was that? Overcome with curiosity, he whispered, “Jintao, what's wrong with your bag?”

“I would like to tell you but not now. Teacher is here. I will tell you during recess,” he spoke in hushed tone.

Just then, “ring!” It was recess time and the boys rushed for their tea break.

After eating, Joshua spotted Jintao and hurried towards him.

“Look! I caught this at a coffeeshop!” Jintao showed Joshua his humongous rat. Joshua's eyes widened like saucers. “Why?” he asked.

Jintao replied, “For revenge on Mrs Tan!”

Joshua was in disbelief. “Why? What did she do to you?” he asked.

“She embarrassed me in front of the whole class!” Jintao exclaimed.

“Ring!” The recess was over. Jintao and Joshua ran back to class and Jintao quickly hid the rat into the teacher's drawer before their classmates returned. Joshua tried to persuade Jintao to stop his mischief but it was in vain.

“Over my dead body!” Jintao replied and went back to his seat.

Soon, Mrs Tan entered the class. She opened the drawer to take the Math book. To her horror, she suddenly screamed at the top of her lungs, “Ahhhhhhhh!”A rat zoomed like a bullet out of the drawer and leapt onto Mrs Tan's hair. Mrs Tan flapped her hands on her head to get the rat off. “Wait till I get hold of the culprit of this mischief!”

The rat ran around and everyone screamed like banshees. Jintao was in big trouble! Shivers ran his spine. He needed to salvage the situation fast. He opened his bag wide and placed some scrumptious cheese near its opening. The rat scuttled towards the bag and ran into it. The culprit was exposed!

Instantly, Mrs Tan knew Jintao was behind this. “Did YOU put the rat into my drawer?” she scowled.

“I...I... did not!” Jintao whimpered uneasily. “I wanted to have the cheese for recess but I forgot to bring it. Mrs Tan checked his bag. It was so smelly with lots of rat's urine and poo.

“Jintao! Follow me to the principal's office. I will call your mother too!” Mrs Tan bellowed.

“Please forgive me. I'll never do it again,” Jintao begged. His pleas fell on deaf ears. Jintao went home and was severely punished for his mother transformed him into a zebra with red stripes. He never dared to be so naughty again.

SA2 P2

It was a lovely day. The sun was shining brightly. As Jack was heading to the nearby park, the mischievous boy decided not to cross the overhead bridge.  He decided to cross the road instead.  The road had very heavy traffic.

As Jack was crossing, there were many horns blaring and he got distracted.  Suddenly, he stopped and turned his head.  He was shocked because there was a car speeding towards him.

“Crash!” Jack was unconscious and he was bleeding profusely.  The driver rushed out of his car and immediately called for the ambulance.  After a few minutes, the paramedics arrived and sent Jack to the nearest hospital.

Fortunately, the doctor saved Jack.  He was discharged from the hospital after a few weeks.  Jack was scolded by his mother and he promised his mother never to jaywalk again.  Jack learnt an important lesson: always observe road safety.

P2 Playing With Fire

It was as quiet as a graveyard. The owl was hooting outside his house. John was feeling bored at home. He spotted a matchbox. A great idea hit him! He decided to do an experiment.

First, he took some newspapers and a box of matchsticks. He knelt down and his hand lit a matchstick. The orange flame was glowing brightly. He dropped it on the newspapers. Flames of fire came out from it. The fire grew bigger and bigger. John felt extremely frightened. He screamed for help!

Luckily, his mother woke up from her deep sleep and rushed like a lightning bolt down the flight of stairs. She caught sight of the enormous fire and her heart pounded very fast. His mother rushed into the kitchen and wet a blanket with water. She ran to the fire and hit the flames many times. Fortunately, the fire was put out.

John's mother was very angry with what John did. She scolded John furiously for his misdeed. John apologised and promised not to do it again.
